Fellow DLP.info team member Andy reports in the Mousekingdom Blog about some rather surprising rumors regarding future plans of the FIA for Formula 1: according to the unofficial website GrandPrix.com Bernie Ecclestone would like to move current French grand prix race from its current location at Magny-Cours where it struggles to attract sufficient guest numbers. The site cites Ecclestone as saying: "Paris is the number one tourist destination in the world. For me a Paris GP has been a dream dating back several years, even to the days of my old friend Jean-Marie Balestre. There are some excellent solutions in the region." According to GrandPrix.com the primary location under study at the moment is ... the Disneyland Resort Paris!!
As GrandPrix.com details in another article, that DLRP could be a perfect location for a combination of a Formula 1 themed / based theme park and a race track on which once a year the French Grand Prix could take place. It must be noted though, that currently Union Properties is the sole licensee of the exclusive worldwide theme park rights for the F1 brand and plans to open a F1 theme park in Dubai, next to an according F1 race track. Therefore any such plan for DLRP would require that DLRP is not only in general interested in using major parts of its property to set up a race track (which would be used rarely throughout the year) but also struck a deal with Union Properties to allow an outside company to establish a third gate for the resort.
Neither the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone, Union Properties nor DLRP have given any official indication whether there are any talks or whether such rumors have any realistic probability of coming true ... but nevertheless they are intruging - so take a look at further details and the thoughts of Andy over at the Mousekingdom Blog and maybe let us know what you think about this idea as well!
