Especially the youngest guests who visited Disneyland Paris in the early years often have fnd memories of their encounter with Merlin the famous wizard. Why? Because some of them got crowned king of the "Magic Kingdom" aka Disneyland Paris for one day when they managed to pull Excalibur out of the anvil on the castle courtyard during a magical ceremony heralded by Merlin himself. Unfortunately this small but entertaining show got cancelled several years ago. But now, as part of the two-day "Welsh Festival" Merlin and his "Sword in the Stone" ceremony returned.
The "Welsh Festival" was presented on Friday and Saturday in the Disneyland Park on occassion of the St David's Day (which officially was already March 1st - you can learn more about the history of this Welsh tradition on Wikipedia). It featured free face painting for children (on the Castle Courtyard), four daily "Sword in the Stone" performances (which proofed that the set-up of the anvil is still fully functional) and a fireworks display on Saturday night at park closing. While the park was busy on both days it needs to be seen whether the "Welsh Festival" attracted enough guests from the UK (as it was only promoted in advance in the UK in a joint effort with the EuroStar) to be repeated next year. But till then guest can still look forward to other Irish / British events: the Irish St. Patrick's Day Festival coming up in two weeks as well as the Bonfire Nights this fall.
