15 candles are to add a special magical touch to the Sleeping Beauty Castle during the 15th anniversary celebration held by the golden statues of some of the most beloved Disney characters of all times - in a first step 8 statues holding 8 candles were installed ( as reported earlier). Then late last week four additional statues were added:
TINKERBELL: at the end of the golden spiral twirling around the castle's highest turret, looking as if she is flying. Note that she is not holding a candle but her wand in the outstretched arm. At this point it is not possible to see whether the top of the wand may light up or not - even so official artwork of the resort implies it will light up.
BUZZ LIGHTYEAR: standing with his wings extended as if ready to lift off and with a clear helmet he has been positioned presenting a candle on one of the rectangular roofs (and therefore stands on a podest and not one of the anniversary crowns as most other characters).
CHESHIRE CAT: the statue of this grinning mischievous cat has been placed off the actual castle to its left (if seen from Central Plaza), on the top of the hill, the castle is
standing on. The Cheshire Cat wears its trademark greaning, leaning with the left arm on the castle rock, balancing a candle on the right paw.
LUMIERE: the living candleholder features, as in Disney's Beauty and the Beast, three candles - his tow arms/hands and his head. Each of them has been added with one of the light up flames. So even Lumiere is only one statue he now can be expected to count as three candles to reach the grand total of 15. Lumiere is positioned on the central rectangular rooftop near the front of the castle. This roof has also been outfitted with extra lights as most of the round turrets.
Thus at the end of last week 13 candles, 12 statues and 14 characters were featured as part of the anniversary decorations on the castle - 14 characters and Chip'n'Dale are represented both in one statue and Figaro sits on the head of Pinocchio statue. But the work continued in the last two nights as the final statues were installed:
THE 7 DWARFS: each represented with his own statue, that were placed in one big group on the balcony of the castle's main turret. The honor to hold the candle went to Dopey who is actually lying on the balcony's balustrade.
HUEY, DEWEY and LOUI: balancing on top of each other on one of the higher, large turrets to the right of the main balcony featuring the 7 dwarfs, Donald's nephews proudly present one more candle.
MICKEY & MINNIE: standing in front of the giant, golden-blue logo with the "15" on it (that was added together with Mickey and Minnie) right above the main entrance to the castle - but not holding any candles. Instead Mickey holds a bouquet of flowers.
Thereby now all 15 candles have been added to the castle - and a grand total of 26 characters - finishing together with the large 15-logo upfront the decorations on the castle. And the result looks impressive and stylish at the same time ... but there is more to discover as additional decorations are popping up at the feet of the castle...
Earlier versions of this ride in Disney’s other Magic Kingdoms could not be more different than that in Paris, which Introduced multiple inversions for the first time on any Disney roller coaster and pioneered the angled launch system.
